Since the Places database is used for both mailing and non-mailing applications, a longer city name is used versus the USPS standard of 13 characters. For example: Data Axle uses "Corpus Christi" instead of "Crp Christi" and "Lake Ronkonkoma" rather than "Lk Ronkonkoma".
Data Axle uses the USPS standard abbreviations for Saint (St) and Mount (Mt) for all cities. Data Axle also consistently spaces "Mc" cities, always abbreviates "Township" to "Twp" and always abbreviates "Air Force Base" to "AFB".
